Privacy Policy

Short version: Nestab keeps your tab data on your device. It does not send your browsing history, tab titles, or URLs to any server. The only external service it contacts is Google's Favicon Service, which receives domain names so site icons can be displayed.

What Nestab does

Nestab is a Chrome extension that archives browser tabs you have not used in a while. When a tab sits idle past a threshold you choose, Nestab saves its details locally on your device and closes the browser tab to free up memory. You can reopen any archived tab at any time through the extension popup.

What data Nestab stores

Nestab stores the following data locally on your device, inside Chrome's extension storage. None of it is sent to Nestab's servers, because Nestab has no servers.

Tab title: the page title shown in the browser tab bar.
Tab URL: the full web address of the page.
Domain name: the hostname portion of the URL, such as github.com.
Favicon URL: the icon URL that Chrome provides for the tab at the time it is archived.
Timestamps: when each tab was last used and when it was archived.
Tab activity log: a temporary record mapping internal Chrome tab IDs to the time each tab was last activated or loaded. This is used only to decide whether a tab has been idle long enough to archive. It is stored locally and is removed as tabs are closed or archived.

Nestab also stores your settings (idle threshold, grouping preference, pinned-tab handling) and a running count of tabs archived since installation.

Third-party services

When you open the Nestab popup, it fetches favicon images from Google's Favicon Service:

This sends the domain name of each archived tab to Google's servers so the correct icon can be displayed. Only the domain name is included in the request. Tab titles, full URLs, and timestamps are not sent. Google may log these requests under their own privacy policy, which you can read at policies.google.com/privacy.

Nestab does not use analytics, advertising networks, crash reporting, or any other third-party services.

Data sharing

Nestab does not share, sell, rent, or transmit your tab data to any third party. The only external contact is the domain names sent to Google's Favicon Service, as described above.

Cross-device sync

Archived tabs are stored on the device where they were collected. They do not sync to other devices or Chrome profiles.

Permissions

Nestab requests three Chrome permissions:

tabs: used to read tab titles, URLs, and favicon URLs; to track when tabs are activated or loaded; and to reopen archived tabs on request.
storage: used to save your archived tabs and settings on your device.
alarms: used to check for idle tabs at regular intervals without running a persistent background process.

Nestab does not request any other Chrome permissions.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling Nestab from Chrome removes all data it has stored. If you want to clear the data while keeping the extension installed, you can do so through Chrome's storage settings at chrome://settings/siteData, or by emailing us at the address below and we will walk you through it.

Children

Nestab is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not designed for or directed at children under 13. It does not collect any data beyond what is described in this policy, regardless of the user's age.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We recommend checking back occasionally if this is important to you.
